hellooooo gorgeous. (yes, i AM talking to my snacks.) have you ever SEEN a more beautiful plate of pigs in a blanket? HAVE YOU?
the answer is no. we both know the answer is no.
today, we’re brainstorming… superbowl style. i know you didn’t miss me rambling on about prepping for our superbowl party on Sunday. but in case you did…. i’m making ALL the things. including this, this, this, and now THIS^^^ (complete with a few secret weapons… as per ushh).
so. pigs in a blanket hold a dear place in my heart. i’ve loved them FOREVER. we always had them on christmas eve when we celebrated with my aunt and uncle (and cousins, obvi) and it was GLORIOUS.
but… when i think of pigs in a blanket, one word comes to mind: starfighters.
i know, i know. it doesn’t make sense. except it does. you see, my best friend’s younger brother had a starwars cookbook when we were younger. there was a recipe for pigs in a blanket called (you guessed it) starfighters! um. and they were made with BREADSTICKS.
i was always under the impression that you HAD to use crescent rolls. nope. and wanna know a secret? i actually PREFER the breadstick version. they aren’t as buttery. they’ve got some weight to them AND there’s always some breadstick dough leftover so you can actually HAVE a few. what??? i know, craziness. ALSO. you don’t have to, like, worry about the serrated edges of the crescent dough that is in the shape of a TRIANGLE (so inconvenient). ugh.
so breadsticks are my first secret weapon. drool.
if you’ve never maddeeee pigs in a blanket before (um, what planet are you living on??), its pretty simple. when i’m using the breadsticks i just cut each stick into thirds. you take a mini hot dog and wrap it in the dough, pinching at the ends.
and then BAM. done. easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.
this is where things are about to get GOOD guys.
like real good.

ugh. LOOK at that. you’re coating a bread blanket in a blanket of shiney olive oil. UGH. what is life.
the only thing that I wish I had thought to do was use roasted garlic infusedddd olive oil. why do the best ideas come to me AFTER THE FACT?
but really, I’m wondering?
would you, in a million years, guess that my favorite bagel is an everything bagel?
this recipe is like merging three of my favorite things together: bagels, breadsticks, and pigs in a blanket.
can i serve this at my wedding? is that inappropriate? frankie still wants the mexican restaurant down the street to cater our wedding, but i feel like if i offer up a compromise of our favorite blog recipes AND noche’s margaritas…. he might go for it.
real talk for a quick second: my biggest tip when using the breadsticks is to go SEAM SIDE DOWN. by that i mean, the space where the breadsticks came together to surround the hotdog? that sucker needs to be at the bottom of the cookie sheet.
it won’t be the end of the world if you forget… but you will have a few that “burst” open. actually now that i’m looking at it, they almost look more like mini hot dogs that way… it could be cute. how do you feel?

for a hot second, let’s talk about dipping sauces. are you a ketchup or a mustard person when if comes to pigs in a blanket. are you a fancy condiment person? how do you feel about curried ketchup? spicy mustard? sriracha?
we ate these with homemade honey mustard. (which omg we’re totally gonna talk about soon). but i could get on board with just about anything here. maybe even an aioli? go crazy.
we all know this is the most important part of superbowl sunday….
Everything Pigs in a Blanket
- Prep Time: 10
- Cook Time: 20
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- 1 package mini cocktail franks
- 1 container pillsbury breadsticks
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- everything seasoning, for sprinkling
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Unroll the breadsticks and cut each stick into three pieces. Wrap each mini hot dog with the bread stick pieces. Place the hot dogs seam-side down and brush the tops with olive oil. Sprinkle with everything seasoning mix.
- Transfer to an ungreased cookie sheet making sure the seam is down on the sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the breadsticks are golden on top. Immediately remove from the cookie sheet and serve warm with dipping sauces!
